Milliken’s Dubai design competition winner announced

Milliken recently hosted a competition at The American University in Dubai, asking students to design a carpet tile for commercial interiors that complements architecture or landscape in the region while remaining relevant to a global audience. The design also had to be compatible with Milliken’s proprietary digital printing technology.

The competition was open to first through fourth year students, and everyone who participated certainly stepped up to the challenge! Here’s a photo of a few submissions on display.

Judging was a truly global process and included participation by Milliken’s U.K. and U.S. design teams. The panel also consisted of professors from the University and a prominent member of the local interior design community.

The winning entry - ‘Green Curves’ by Lydia Malak Awad – took an abstract perspective of Dubai’s modern architecture. It highlights the Sheikh Zayed Road weaving through tall rectangular shapes.

The judges chose this design for its sophisticated coloration and multi-faceted perspective of geometric shapes and underlying suggestion of meandering through the busy city. Thank you to everyone who participated, and congratulations to the winner!
